Just as the Americans have entered Rosheim, Abbé Ernest Dussourd descends the stairs of the Saint-Étienne church to welcome them. A few soldiers come up to him, others kneel down to be blessed.

The Abbé then takes this photo near the sacristy, where the soldiers are joined by local residents. Many gifts and exchanges take place, with the young men sampling the chewing gum and the soldiers the local wine and schnapps.
